Every time I went to a new restaurant with my family, I had to sample the house grilled cheese. (Some past top picks were: Friday's, Friendly's, and Sonic. Clearly, I had a very refined pallet.) I loved grilled cheese so much, I wanted to marry it. Just kidding, I actually just wanted to figure out a way to eat it at every meal. To that end, I declared myself a vegetarian. I figured if I had moral grounds to back up my grilled cheese consumption, I and my frying pan would be untouchable. The first day was wondrous. I was in my personal version of heaven, drinking golden drops of melting cheese falling from the sky while lounging on clouds of fluffy, yet crunchy bread. By the end of the week, however, I had become sick of my favorite meal and reverted to my previous carnivore state. I wouldn't make the permanent switch to vegetarianism for another two years, but I was back to eating grilled cheese in a week. Nobody's perfect, and while I understand that I probably gave you that impression from this lovely blog, I was only twelve then. I still shopped at Aeropostale and wore my hair in a tight ponytail every day, so my mistakes were many. I'm the one in the middle. Then, I transitioned from vegetarianism to veganism and thought I had hung up my frying pan for good. Still, every once in a while, I get the insatiable urge to grill a cheese. In the past, I've sprinkled some Daiya shreds on a two pieces of bread and hoped for the best. I even bought a block of Vegan Gourmet, cut a slice, and instantly regretted it because that vegan cheese was gross. As a rule, I try to stay away from fake food, people, and body parts, which is why I don't normally eat vegan cheese.
